Jizo (Jizo Bosatsu) (Sanskrit Kṣitigarbha) is a bodhisattva revered as a liberator from the torments of hell, a guardian of children who have died, and a protector the itinerant. His attributes are a monk’s staff with six circles in his right hand and a “wish-fulfilling jewel” in his left hand.
